sunday poetry

stop staring me down
I get intimidated easy
your blinkless gaze is turning my orbit around

I look away
I laugh
pretending I don't relish every second of your gaze

I can hardly think
nerves rattled, brain cells fried
to pair one letter to another and to another
semblance of words to make sense of what i'm feeling
is already difficult enough

thank you for the welcome distraction

a week full of glee!

This blog is really suffering because I've been so busy at work - and frankly, when you write all day, the last thing you want to do when you get back home is WRITE SOME MORE.

It was a pretty great week at work though! The highlight was this crazy idea I had for Tuesday...given it was the spring premiere of Glee. It's what my colleagues refer to as a "mind movie"....let's just say the story working out depends on a number of ifs, ands, and buts!

I was thinking on Monday night that...there must be some local youth choirs out there who are super excited about the premiere! And so I went on the Google hunt and found a few...and one of them turned out to be a SHOW CHOIR! (translation: a choir that does both dance and song) So on Tuesday morning, I called the school...which had their own version of Mr. Schuester, really, and he put me in touch with a few of his students. They were not only talented but also super excited about the show and how much it's changed the perception of show choir and all that jazz. Turns out they're training for their own version of "regionals", or "nationals"...in fact, they have to head down to the States just to compete with other schools!

They also did some great acapella singing on air...it was radio gold! And an original story! As you can imagine, it made my day :)

my glockenspiel

I bought this lovely instrument a week ago and it's already brought me tremendous joy. It was a premeditated purchase, thank you very much. I have been thinking about it ever since I saw Hey Ocean use it...and I've been noticing their prevalence in the indie pop world since.

I'm trying to master the piano and glockenspiel combo...but first, I'm just familiarizing myself with the instrument and how to think in "glockenspiel mode". I may furrow my brow quite a bit while playing it, but that's because I'm concentrating! It's not because I don't enjoy playing it! In fact, I love how I can't think of anything else while playing it...that in itself is worth the purchase.

hot chicken sandwich

One of my fondest memories of cafeteria food was this dish - which I recently (actually, it's been a few months) because I had all the right ingredients and my brother (who has equally fond memories of this) was in town.

For some strange reason, cafeteria food was actually really decent at my elementary school. Whenever there would be special meals (spaghetti, turkey dinner, hot chicken sandwich), you would have to "reserve" one and buy a ticket in advance. That, for some reason, always made it extra exciting. (Or maybe I was just a really sad boring kid)

The best part is that eating this dish still fills me with glee. And it made my brother laugh. I mean, when it comes down to it, it's roasted chicken...on a piece of white bread...smothered in gravy and peas. And you eat it open faced with a fork and a knife...REALLY GHETTO FOOD. I guess I'm just the nostalgic type.
