this is what happens when you fall asleep too early

it's currently 2:28am and I have probably just totally screwed up my sleeping schedule.
It took a very long time to get home - approximately one hour and a half (from downtown), but the ride wasn't bad at all considering I just read from "the cellist of sarajevo". Which is so heartbreakingly beautiful, by the way.

I came home, ate leftovers while watching the rachel maddow show on MSNBC (my absolute new favourite television personality! although colbert is a very close second!), and was thinking about getting a few things done before crashing...yeah, that didn't happen. I accidentally fell asleep while doing some reading afterwards...and here I am now, boring you to hell at 2:35am in the morning.

The few days off this week allowed me to see a few of my friends - even though I was not at my emotional/intellectual best. Lots of "cleaning out" to do...whether that's in mind, spirit, or my bedroom (which I spent several hours revamping!). One thought that's stuck with me through the days is something my friend viv brought up in conversation the other morning.

Muscles.

I was complaining to her how both my legs were so sore after a particular workout the Saturday before...and I couldn't even walk properly. And she said: "oh, you're making new muscles...", something along the lines of certain ligaments being torn, and building new muscles. (viv, you can clarify for the good people who read this blog cuz clearly my memory is foggy).

It was a completely mundane comment coming from my friend, but as I thought more about it...I realized how relevant it was. The "muscling" process is not unlike gold being refined in the fire...it will hurt, but eventually, you come out stronger and able to face more challenges (or workouts) the next time around. it's a process of renewal...and for that, I am very thankful.

on a different note...go out and vote today! exercise your right :) civic elections are actually the closest you can get to tangible change you can see: it's about the schools you send your kids to, the parks you visit, the community services being offered, and the projects being built...
I have to say, I haven't been the best at checking all the various platforms, but I'm voting for city councillors who have made affordable housing a priority in this election.

When you put "stress" on your muscles through exercising, there is microscopic tearing of the muscle fibers. The muscle fibers will then repair itself and become stronger than before!

Yes, it is definitely a process of renewal. Thank you for the analogy and the reminder. :)
