people phobia

I hate bumping into people.
Even if I like you, I most likely would dread bumping into you out of context.
I'm scared of awkward silence, poor attempts of catching up, uncomfortable glances to surroundings cuz neither of you REALLY know how to move on from the conversation.
Sometimes, I will pretend to sleep on the bus because I want to avoid someone I know who has just gotten on the bus (usually high school acquaintances cuz we all live within the same neighbourhood)....I know this sounds really terrible and mean, but I just don't enjoy making the effort. At least not often.

however, I do sometimes enjoy serendipitous encounters. it's funny though, there are about 2 or 3 people that I bump into ALL THE TIME (and it's not like we take the same route home/to work!). it's some strange twist of fate, or God being funny, I suppose. I also remember once bumping into miss fong on the 98 B-Line. It was so unbelievably out of context (it was like...9:30pm on a Monday night) that it took us about 30 seconds to realize we had bumped into each other. Heehee.

Let me throw it out to you...do you like bumping into people that you know? or do you also find it socially awkward for the most part?

my experiences have been similar. If I had a choice, I would choose never to bump into anybody I know on transit or in expected circumstances. But when I do, I either choose to sleep, gaze out the window, or drum up the courage for a 2 finger salute and move on.

Maybe something to do with how I find the idea of public transit during rush hour (idea of so many lives momentarily connected for the simple purpose of getting from point A => B)

I don't like physically bumping into people. But, if you mean the other "fancy meeting you here" kind of bumping, then it really depends on the circumstances of my last encounter with that person.

I don't mind bumping into people, but when I was a bus rider I really disliked bumping into anyone I knew who I hadn't planned on meeting. This is because I much prefer sleeping on the bus. I think I've already told you the story of the "friend" who woke me up on the bus to tell me that I looked tired. Argh!
