april 8, 2008. (a scribbled note recently found)
Last night's SoJ meeting got me thinking about how immediate the housing crisis is in Vancouver. It got me wondering about how people might have felt during the Civil Rights Movement, Apartheid resistance...did they know that they were revolutionaries? Did they know that they were making history, breaking new ground, and addressing something that would become so crucial to the freedom of generations to come?
While they raised their voices, standing up to the injustices of their time, did they imagine the consequences of NOT doing those things? Did they know HOW CRUCIAL their action was to the fundamentals of democracy?
I wonder...
If we could foresee the importance of our current resistance to existing and oppressive socio-economic power structures, that it would "make a difference", would we behave otherwise (other-wise)?
