Sarah McLachlan - World On Fire

I don’t think a music video has ever made me cry – except for this one. It does an amazing job of bringing to light how divided our world has become, the discrepancies between the world’s richest and poorest – and what demands to be done in the name of justice. I was watching segments of “American Idol Gives Back” last night, and was just struck by the gap that exists between what is said and done for the global poor…and how easy it is to feel smug about it once we’ve contributed in some way. I mean, Exxon Mobil pimping themselves in the name of dying children in Africa? I don’t know about you but…the irony of that drives me INSANE. Are they not ashamed by the blood on their own hands?

However, I refrain from being cynical. Every little bit helps, no matter how large the contribution. What I hope is that from there on, there will be a strength of will that carries through…
