response to "rich young ruler" (derek webb)

our comfort is in the status quo
we like the way things are when they work
and we continue to invest our time, our chatter, our feelings
into this ancien regime of stagnancy

cyclically we continue
to love who we find easy to love
to forget who we wish to forget

The Lord asks:
"share your bread with the hungry"

we cry: "but we haven't had enough!"

The Lord asks:
"bring the homeless poor into Your house"

we cry: "but they are dirty and my house is clean!"

The Lord asks:
"when you see the naked, cover them"

we cry: "but we do not possess enough clothing for ourselves!"

our comfort is in the lack of relinquishment
we like our commodities and how they make us feel
and we continue to invest our money, our love, our hopes
into this selfish regime of "life fulfillment"

"I want more than just your cash and coin, I want your time, I want your voice, I want the things you just can't give me..." - Rich Young Ruler, Derek Webb
