oh gravity!

I, Elaine Chau, braved Boxing Day craziness JUST TO BUY THE NEW SWITCHFOOT. woot woot! I couldn't wait...I simply could not wait. Call me obsessed, insane...whatever you want...but I HAVE MY ALBUM!

only in the "initial" listening stage...so I will reserve my comments for later. However, very different from any of the other albums...yet again...=) Much less melancholic than "Nothing is Sound", for sure.

My favourite song so far is "Awakening"...here are some excerpts:

Here we are now with the falling sky and the rain, we're awakening
Here we are now with our desperate youth and the pain, we're awakening
Maybe it's called ambition, you've been talking in your sleep
About a dream, we're awakening
Last week found me living for nothing but deadlines
With my dead beat sky but, this town doesn't look the same tonight
These dreams started singing to me out of nowhere
And in all my life I don't know if I've ever felt so alive, alive

I want to wake up kicking and screaming
I want a heart that I know is beating, it's beating
I'm bleeding

I love the song because I think it speaks of the spark of life that's in all of us to give...it's about that epiphanic moment where you just KNOW you want to live for something more. The possibility that escape is possible...that we don't need to be afraid of our dreams and aspirations...and that desire to go against the tide. To me personally, it resonates...because I've been thinking about sacrifice a lot; if you want to do something you love and feel passionate about, there are bound to be sacrifices. you may not be financially secure, or you may not be rooted...and so forth. when the time comes...when I know that God is calling me to "something more" with my career...I hope to adhere to that.

Speaking of which...PJ, I need to ask you a favour! That favour I asked you about before you left...Hahaha.
