the joys of late night concerts before exams
due to my poor poor poor organizational skills, I committed to seeing amos lee play at the commodore last night even though I had an 8:30 am exam to write today (which went well! I survived! But kinda mad at my paper mark...I expected higher). Never will I ever ever do that again...I feel like broken pile of bones.
nonetheless, I had a fabulous time with the girls and we (well...me and poe...) revelled in passive/aggressively teasing amos lee's "looks" (I call it the " 'i want to look like jesus' syndrome") and yelled extra loud for his drummer freddie...the least attractive one of all (albeit talented! god ho fair geh...). a dude named mutlu opened, and was quite quite fabulous. he sounds like a cross between marvin gaye and justin timberlake, with the guitar skills to back it up. I love the simplicity of a solid acoustic set...with some of sultry jazz notes thrown in.
after a painfully long wait (we made fun of vancouver 's "paris hilton" and "k-fed") and enduring the awkwardness of people groping other people (which continued throughout the concert...geez...some folks HAVE NO SHAME), amos lee finally came on. needless to say, he did not disappoint! highlights for me were "sympathize", "night train" (i think that's the name...the cocaine song), and "black river"...
the one thing that really resonated with me was the genuine joy expressed by everyone on the band while they were playing. I love how "ordinary" everyone was...and the focus was on them jamming rather than "performing". there was a real honesty onstage that's expressed by few professional musicians...and they were not inhibited at all! amos lee's guitarist was probably the most impressive...with his trumpet and mandolin skills. I loved being included in their "musical joy"...it was a privilege!
anyways...i'm as tired as goose (don't ask)...but alas! one more thing!
I just found out that Bai Ling is guesting on "Lost" as Foxy's (Dr. Jack Shepard) past love interest! I was ENRAGED! Of all Asian actresses to pick...they had to pick her? I'm surprisingly angered by something completely irrelevant to my life. Haha. If I had known that they were casting an Asian female for Jack's love interest way ahead of time...I would have tried pursuing a career in acting. Teehee...just kidding!

I have a good friend with that name, and once Clod put on her msn "I LOVE AMOS LEE" and I thought.. hey... when did she meet him!? Hilarious.
I know Amos Lee! He's a math whiz...a genuine math junkie--isn't he PhD or something ridiculous like that?! (I don't understand people like him...)But I'm glad he's there to make up for the math skills that I lack. Although...if there weren't people like Amos, maybe math wouldn't be as developed as it is...maybe we wouldn't have to learn calculus or trig! Maybe he's just propelling the evilness of math!!
Wait...I'm getting carried away...I'm starting to blog in a comment! I'm pulling a PJ!! *AHHHH*....Time to catch up on sleep and rein in the Christmas insanity...
"Wait...I'm getting carried away...I'm starting to blog in a comment! I'm pulling a PJ!!"
Em, you are a very good student and I'm so proud of you. Now the next thing I want you to practice is adding an edgy tone to your blog/comments. I just finished my last final today which means ... I now have LOTS of time. Oh, I better say something about the topic or else that is bad blogging etiquette. e, is Amos Lee Chinese?
Amos Lee #1 (the one that we know) is Chinese.
Amos Lee #2 (the singer) is fairly un-Chinese, I think. Too bad for him! There are so many advantages.
wow folks...we've got a conversation going on here! but don't get excited PJ...I have no plans on posting about the Canucks. snerk, have you ever tried introducing clod to your amos lee? it's a blind date opportunity waiting to happen!
