food adventures

Vancouver is definitely not a bad place to live in if you’re choosing to eat locally – I wish I could check out neighbourhood farmers’ markets all the time, but at least there’s the Granville Island Public Market…which is open on a consistent basis. So I’ll begin my recent adventures there…

Food purchased on Granville Island:
1) Foie Gras Pâté (100g), Pâté des Ardennes (100 g), and two venison blueberry sausages from Oyama Meats
- Sidenote: Was very tempted to buy saucisson…but figured nobody would eat it but me. Oh the French…
2) Liberté Mediterranean Plain Yogourt – This is clearly what yogourt must taste like in heaven. Bought it as brunch fare – made a strawberry/melon/pear fruit salad (with Soho of course) to put on this.
3) Cranberry Pistachio Loaf at Terra Breads – That sounds awesome enough as is…no need for elaboration.

COFFEE!!! *shakes fist*
1) The Elysian Room – had an espresso macchiato…I think I love their crockery the best actually. Smooth and slightly acidic.
2) Prado – had a hankering while driving back to work from SFU and Commercial Drive was like…totally on the way (I don’t have addiction, I promise). Had an espresso – bolder than Elysian, nuttier. I liked it a lot.
3) 49th Parallel – I finally got to try it yesterday! Found fellow coffee geeks in the office and was invited to go on a “coffee run”…other folks tried blends from the clover menu, but I had to try the espresso first…before anything. So smooth and velvety…made me crave for more later on.
4) Can’t wait to finish current beans in order to try another blend.

BAGELS!!!
1) I have the luxury of working uber close to a Solly’s location…they’re a well-known Jewish bakery that has the BEST cinnamon buns, and the best lox and cheese bagel I’ve ever had. Mmmmmm. – I went back today to buy frozen bagels for my mommy, and was tempted to purchase some knish too…I’m also planning to bake some rugoleh as Christmas gifts.
