Homelessness Action Week

Hello folks,
It's a bit of a crazy week for me...but before I take a rest from blogging, I just want to draw your attention to a few things happening around the city.
Streams of Justice, a Christian advocacy group that I'm a part of, is tent-squatting in one of the city-owned empty lots. The site is designated for social housing but nothing has happened with the land thus far, not even a plan. As Dave (Diewert) mentioned in talking with The Tyee (for an article by Monte Paulsen),

"This site is owned by the City of Vancouver and designated for social housing. The Province of British Columbia ended its last fiscal year with a $4.1 billion surplus...so we've got the land. And we've got the money. But we have no homes. We are here to bear witness to this injustice."

There are about a dozen committed folks from SoJ who are occupying the site 24/7, and the city has decided to not take legal action until Friday. Food donations would be appreciated (and socks!), so let me know if you would like to contribute! I'll be dropping by the site a couple of times this week.

Here are a few good links:

1) The Tyee article about the action is here.
2) Dave Eby's blog is here. (Pivot is helping SoJ with the legal side of things)
3) The official Homelessness Action Week website is here.
4) Finally, SoJ's blog is here. (Which you can also find in my links box on the right hand side)

Thanks for reading!
